teaching (TBLT) and resources developed by the Lethbridge Curriculum Developers Group to
promote engagement in the French classroom using tasks, games, and music.

Presentation Summary: In this workshop designed for Division Two and Three French
teachers, language educators will be exposed to the principles of task-based language teaching
(TBLT) and online resources developed to deliver the Alberta French as a Second Language
Program of Study. Attendees will be introduced to a variety of tasks based on Willis’ (1996)
categorization and clusters of lessons (including lesson plans and supporting materials) to
promote communication and engagement in the language classroom. Participants will also be
introduced to a variety of games that can be used to promote language acquisition and different
techniques to explore French through music. The presentation will be of interest to any language
educators who are interested in learning about new strategies for promoting communicative
competence and exploring free online resources.
