The concept of humane education has been around for over 100 years, but what is it exactly & how does it fit in the current classroom? This session will discuss what humane education is, & how it aligns with the Alberta Programs of Study. We will look at the benefits of including humane education into teaching & offer ideas & examples of how it can be done, while meeting curricular objectives. Finally, we will explore the free resources the Alberta SPCA has to offer. In this session we will discuss: Ò€’What humane education is (& what it isn't) Ò€’How including humane education in teaching can foster positive character traits, such as kindness and respect in students Ò€’Ideas & examples of incorporating humane education into your classroom while meeting curriculum objectives Ò€’Resources available to teachers including a free book lending program that helps promote empathy, character education themes, & information on animals in the classroom including classroom pets & animals in science, & more
